ABOUT APE

APE is a six-piece band from San Francisco and the only band in the world that features a live Tiki Carver. APE is anything but conventional.

While rooted in exotica, rock, jazz, and Hawaiian music, APE has touched on various genres throughout their career. Their instrumentation is a nontraditional mix of steel guitar, ukuleles, odd tuned baritone and electric guitars, bass, drums and a variety of percussion instruments. Fronted by a man swinging an ax known as ‘Crazy Al,’ their live shows are not to be missed experiences which is why you might find yourself sitting next to folks like Alice Cooper. Many of their exciting instrumental songs thrive on the dynamics of call-and-response before building to a climax and their animated vocal numbers do a great job of pulling the audience into the mix and make you want to dance.

APE recently played the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco, has headlined the Hard Rock Cafe and the House of Blues in Las Vegas, the Tiki Oasis festivals in Palm Springs and San Diego, the Hukilau in Florida, shared the bill with Sammy Hagar, Blondie, Dragon Smoke, Link Wray, Preston Epps, Billy Mure and toured the Western United States. This year they are recording their follow up album to ‘Supersonic’ as well as a line of limited edition custom APE tiki mugs, a new live film and some fun apparel.
